Total Resistance Exercise (TRX) is suspended training where you can use your own body weight against gravity to create resistance exercises. Originally created for the owner to get in a full-body workout whilst using as little equipment and space as possible, over the years TXR has evolved into classes and has changed workouts for people of all abilities.
When first encountering TRX, the straps can come across as intimidating and leave you perplexed as to how to use the equipment. In reality however, it really is all fairly simple. The majority of exercises you actually do without the use of TXR straps – such as a chest press and a push up. It can all be made much more challenging with the use of TXR equipment, too.
As Total Resistance Exercise workouts are still relatively new to some in the fitness world, not everyone is sure on how to maximise their training with this equipment. So, take a look at these five TRX workout tips to get the best from your workout.
Five TRX workout tips
Get familiar with the equipment
TRX equipment is very simple to use once you become accustomed with it. At first you might want to just jump in straight away, but before beginning your workout, make sure you test the equipment out. By spending a short amount of time learning how to adjust the straps and set up the equipment properly for maximum support, you will in turn have a much safer and beneficial workout.
Take your time
Even more so with the use of the TRX equipment, it’s important to take your time when performing your resistance exercises. The slower the better; you’ll maximise the workout and also prevent injury. If you focus on taking the time to get the correct form in your exercise, it’ll benefit you significantly more than rushing through to maximise your reps.
Quality over quantity
Just like you would when completing any exercise without TRX equipment, it is important to focus on the quality of your repetitions rather than the quantity. Workout at your own individual pace to complete exercises in the best form possible to maximise workout results. No matter what pace you go at, if you complete each exercise properly you will get much more from it.
Keep upright as much as possible
One of the main benefits of TRX is that it is fantastic for your core. But when people first take hold of the handles, they instinctively lean back. Your core is only engaged in exercises when you are in an upright position, so to get the most out of your TRX workout, ensure you keep as upright as possible.
Take TRX with you
Unlike weights, TRX equipment is very light and therefore is very easy to take with you wherever you go. This means you are able to train pretty much everywhere you travel – whether that’s a hotel room or the beach, you can always fit in a quick workout when you’re on the move!
